Weightlifting Team First To Be Announced For 2022 Commonwelath Games

Seven weightlifters and the Para Lawn Bowls team have become the first athletes named to the New Zealand Team for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The athletes were formally welcomed to the team at a function in Auckland farewelling the Queen’s Baton, which has been touring New Zealand as the symbol of the Commonwealth Games.
The weightlifting athletes are:
* David Liti – Men’s 109+kg* Koale Junior Tasi Taala - Men’s 109kg (conditional upon national eligibility classification)* Cameron McTaggart – Men’s 81kg* Vester Villalon – Men’s 73kg* Hayley Whiting – Women’s 87kg* Megan Signal – Women’s 71kg* Emma McIntyre – Women’s 64kg

Event Scheduling Changes

With the implementation of the WNZ Commission structure, the Sports Commission is now responsible for event planning and scheduling, including sanctioning of Club events.

WNZ Governance and Organisational Structure

Following the WNZ Special General meeting and AGM, and the approval of the changes to our Constitution by Incorporated Societies, WNZ have formally moved to a changed EG structure of 5 elected EG members, and the ability to co-opt up to 2 appointed EG Members if deemed necessary.
In addition we have appointed chairs and members of the 6 WNZ Commissions - as attached.
As per the "Transitional Clauses" set out in the approved changes, the EG have met to elect the President and Vice-President. The newly elected President to replace Richie Patterson as the outgoing President is Simon Kent, and the Vice-President

SGM and AGM Attendance

The WNZ SGM and AGM are scheduled for this Sunday at 1pm.
The meetings will be conducted via Zoom again this year due to travel and contact restrictions. If you wish to attend please e-mail info@weightlifting.nz and advise name and preferred e-mail address to be sent the meeting link.
The deadline for this is noon, Saturday 20 November to enable checking for voting eligibility.

Nigel Avery Named As 2022 Chef De Mission

WNZ member Nigel Avery has just been named as the Chef de Mission to lead the New Zealand team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
A member of Hawkes Bay Weightlifting Club, Nigel has been refereeing at events since renewing his membership.
WNZ wishes Nigel every success in his new role, and look forward to working with him in Birmingham.
