Notice of 2021 WNZ SGM and AGM

Despite the disruption caused by restrictions to travel and meetings, WNZ must hold it's General meeting.
Incorporated Societies have allowed some "leeway" under COVID, which provides us with the opportunity to host "remote" General Meetings via video-conferencing.
Therefore, this year's meetings will (again) be conducted via Zoom.
The attached Notice of Meeting covers both a Special General Meeting (1pm, Sunday 21 November) and the Annual General Meeting to be held immediately after the SGM.
Please note that if you have any items of business, nominations, etc please send these to the e-mail address provided within the stated deadlines.
These will be then be published in time

Proposed Executive Group Restructure

As part of the WNZ Strategic Plan objectives of increasing capability and sustainability, we have advised previously the intention to form formal working groups (Commissions). There has been very good response with a number of people signalling their willingness to help develop and deliver the service and products that WNZ will provide to our members. Expressions of Interest for these groups is still open, so please log-in and register your interest if you are willing to help.

2021 National Masters, Senior, and Junior Championships Cancelled

Weightlifting New Zealand regrets to announce that as a result of ongoing disruption, inability to travel and the public health risk associated with the COVID19 Delta outbreak, it is in the best interests of our community that the 2021 Masters and Junior & Senior National Championships not proceed in 2021. Further information for high performance athletes and potential other competitive opportunities will be circulated in the coming days. The priority was making this announcement so athletes and coaches can plan accordingly.

WNZ Welcomes A New Club

WNZ is excited to welcome Functional Adaptive Movement as an affiliated club, under the leadership of Michael Hynard.
FAM will be an important part of expanding our inclusivity objective, providing participation and competitive pathways for adaptive athletes. 
More on the Adaptive Athlete program will be announced as this develops.

Commonwealth Championships Update

Attached is information from the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation regarding the 2021 Commonwealth Championships.
In addition, WNZ are working towards hosting a Commonwealth Games qualifying event in early February. More information will be provided as the details are finalised.

Oceania Championships Update

Unfortunately, due to the COVID outbreak in NZ and the current alert level settings, Weightlifting NZ is unable to compete in the 2021 Oceania Online competition.
The decision has been made as we are unable to meet the regulations of the competition, which is to create a venue hub where all competitors can come together and the competition can be overseen by two officials of Cat 2 status or above.
Many of the lifters selected have not had, and do not have, the ability to train and therefore adequately prepare for the competition. With the uncertainty around moving alert levels in the future,

Update On Planned Events

As a consequence of current COVID19 disruptions to training and the ability to travel, the following decisions have been made with regard to upcoming events. We understand there may be disappointment for some members, however decisions have been made with ALL members of the relevant community in mind.
2021 Secondary School ChampionshipsThe SSSNZ-sanctioned schools event for 2021 has been cancelled, however will be replaced with the New Zealand Virtual Youth Championships. This will take place over the weekend of October 30th and 31st; athletes will compete virtually from their own or a local gym. Current entrants to the Secondary School Championships have
